The Eagles will have Mark Helfenreich back on staff in 2017 after he was fired following the team’s loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 5.
After being a defensive coordinator for the New York Giants for the past four seasons, Helfens coaching career began with the Cleveland Browns.
Helfenrech started his coaching career with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he compiled a record of 23-17 in two seasons.
The Cleveland Browns drafted Helfenrich in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft and he spent four seasons with the team.
He was hired by the Philadelphia Eagles in the same year as the 2016 NFL Draft.
Following his first season with the Eagles, Helfenhe had a short stint with the Baltimore Ravens before being fired.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles had a meeting with Helfench prior to his firing.
With the hiring of Mark Helfgich, the defense is expected to be even more stout in 2017.
Defensive Coordinator Mark Helfaust has been an assistant with the Atlanta Falcons since the 2013 season, and was promoted to the position in 2015.
In 2017, Helfaurd’s defense was the best in the NFL.
On the defensive side of the ball, the team was among the top 10 in the league in rushing defense.
They were also among the best units in pass defense, with opponents allowing just 3.1 yards per carry.
During the regular season, the Falcons were ranked in the top 15 in both pass defense and rush defense, and ranked third in yards per play allowed.
Last season, Helfbust was named to the Pro Bowl.
“This was an incredible opportunity for me to get back into coaching, and I couldn’t be more excited to be back in the building,” Helfurst said.
“As a former head coach, it’s a privilege to coach the Atlanta Hawks and the fans that support the team so I’m looking forward to working with them again in 2017.”
Helfurd was one of the few defensive coordinators in NFL history to have his defenses ranked among the league’s top 10 defense and top 20 offense during the 2016 season.
Under Helfust, the Hawks recorded 11 consecutive wins, their longest winning streak since the 2003 season.
The Falcons were in the playoff hunt for the second straight season and finished fourth in the NFC.
A native of Lakewood, Ohio, Helafurst began his coaching professional career with Division III South Carolina before landing his coaching job at Western Michigan.
At the collegiate level, Helfeust coached at the Division III level from 2009 to 2011, when he coached the Michigan Wolverines to two NCAA Championship appearances.
Since that time, Helfoord has been a member of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.
When Helfurn retired from coaching in 2011, he said he was looking for a new challenge and that he was happy to return to coaching.
Although he left coaching behind with the Falcons, Helfalust was hired as an offensive assistant by the Green Bay Packers in 2016.
While he spent time as an assistant in Atlanta, he was brought on as a defensive assistant with Green Bay, and he helped the Packers to a 9-7 record and a berth in the Super Bowl.
“Mark has been one of our best coaches in the past three years, and we’re excited to bring him back to Philadelphia,” Head Coach Todd Bowles said.
We’re going to put together an incredible defensive line.
We’ve been in a lot of situations where you don’t have that type of experience, and it’s something I’m excited to do.
“I’ve been able to learn from him, and my coaching philosophy has always been to build the best possible foundation.
I’ve always wanted to make sure we’re playing with the best talent on the field, so that’s what we’re going into 2017 with.”
The Eagles signed Helfenrath to a contract that runs through the 2019 season.
