There are times when the Cowboys defense seems to be in the best place it has ever been.
That is, if the Cowboys can keep playing at the highest level they have at this point in their careers.
This season has been no exception.
If they can keep this pace going and not drop games, this defense could be the reason the Cowboys will be in Super Bowl XLIX.
The defense has shown signs of life with each of the last two weeks, but this week they will face the best quarterback the Cowboys have faced since they played Drew Brees in Week 2.
Dak Prescott is a monster, and while he has not played at his best, he has been a force in the middle of the field.
In three games, Prescott has thrown for over 500 yards, nine touchdowns and just two interceptions.
It is impossible to underestimate the impact he has had on this defense.
Prescott is the only quarterback to throw for over 300 yards in a game and only Drew Brees has thrown more touchdowns.
His ability to create big plays has been instrumental to this defense’s success.
On Sunday, Prescott threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cowboys to a 24-21 victory over the New York Giants.
It was the first time in over a year Prescott was held under 200 yards passing in a regular season game.
Prescott was able to use his legs to create plays and the offense was able find ways to get open for touchdowns on the ground.
Prescott has been able to complete more than half of his passes in this game, and he has only had three interceptions in his career.
Prescott also leads the NFL in passer rating (100.0), rushing yards per game (7.2), passing yards per contest (5.9) and rushing touchdowns per game this season.
He has also completed over 70 percent of his throws in all three games this season and is averaging a league-best 22.0 yards per attempt.
The Cowboys have a chance to be the first team to win a playoff series since the Cowboys reached the NFC Championship Game in 2007.
Prescott will face a Giants defense that has allowed the fewest yards per carry in the NFL and has allowed an average of more than 15 points per game.
It will be difficult for the Giants to stop Prescott, and this game could be a chance for them to get back to winning ways.
The Giants have lost seven straight games and are currently one game behind the Cowboys for the final playoff spot in the NFC.
Prescott may not be the only one to benefit from this offense.
The other quarterbacks have been equally effective this season, but the defense has been the one that has been winning, and it is hard to argue with the results.
The first two weeks have been a roller coaster ride for the Cowboys.
They have lost a lot of games, and yet they have been able be consistent and consistent at home.
It has not been easy.
Prescott needs to be a factor in this week’s game to help the defense to the playoffs.
If he can keep up the dominance and avoid a fourth consecutive losing season, this offense could be in contention for the Super Bowl.
