UNITED KINGDOM–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 26, 2020–The Falkor Defense M5 will now be designated as the Falkor Armed Forces Ground Assault Support System.
The designation will come into effect immediately.
This is the first time the Falkon Islands Defense Force (FDS) will use a designation other than the Falko-Hawaii-United Kingdom (FUK-UK) designation, which was previously used for other military units.
The FDS, with more than 30,000 personnel, has been a cornerstone of the United Kingdom’s response to the Falklands War.
In June, the Falkland Islands Armed Forces declared their independence from the United States.
The Falklands and its residents have since enjoyed freedom and self-determination.
During the past decade, the FDS has received numerous upgrades, including the deployment of advanced weapons and technology, as well as upgrades to equipment and personnel.
The FDS is currently equipped with the F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter aircraft.
The upgraded FDS also has an upgraded version of the Aegis Global Positioning System (GPS), and it has a new generation of communications equipment, including digital radios, satellite communications and a new electronic warfare system.
The Falkland Island Defense Force has received support from the Royal Navy’s Fleet Support Unit (FSU), the Royal Air Force (RAF), the Marine Corps’ Joint Task Force-North (JTF-North), and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The United Kingdom is committed to protecting the Falklanders, and has the highest standards for human rights and international humanitarian law.
The UK Government is committed, in coordination with our European and NATO partners, to ensuring that the Falken Islands maintain a high level of international respect and safety.
The United Kingdom and its allies are committed to achieving peace through dialogue and negotiation.
